Pirates clobber Roadrunners in Coast Crossover

COSTA MESA -- The record books were tested on Friday night as the Orange Coast College women's basketball team put up historic numbers against Rio Hondo, cruising to a 110-36 win over the visiting Roadrunners on Friday night at the OCC Crossover.

The 110 points were the fourth-most in OCC school history ... the most since the Pirates scored a school record 127 (also against Rio Hondo) during the 2006-07 season. The 74-point margin of victory was the second-most all time, surpassed only by the 1992-93 Pirates, who clobbered Grossmont 116-33 on 12/12/92.

OCC's Jordan Arreola got hot early and helped push the Pirates to a big first-quarter lead. The sophomore transfer scored 18 first-quarter points and finished the night with a team-best 25. Ashari Cassell added 19 points and seven assists for Coast, while Bridgette McIntyre, Makena Ching and Sabrina Lopez each added 10 points.

Coast outscored the Roadrunners (2-8) 38-9 in the first quarter and never looked back. The Pirate defense clamped down and forced 30 turnovers, while holding RHC to just 16-of-52 from the floor (30.8 %) and 3-of-13 from beyond the 3-point arc (23.1%).

Led by Alyssa Dreessen's 11 rebounds, Coast also dominated the boards, 58-25. OCC also picked up 19 steals, led by five from Hailey Estrada

The Pirates will return to action on Saturday to wrap up the Crossover against Glendale College, beginning at 3 p.m.
