Cypress, CA. -- Fresh off their OT win over Fullerton earlier in the week, the Chargers faced OCC Friday night at home. The game proved to be a thriller and OCC escaped out of Gym II with a double-overtime victory over Cypress, 85-83. 

The game was very competitive from the begining and while Cypress maintained the advantage in the first half, the lead was never more than four points. At the break Cypress lead by two, 29-27.

OCC maintained control in the second half as they were able to get their first lead of the game three minutes in. With 13 minutes left in the game, they led by seven, 41-34. Not only was the second half competitive, the entire game was tied eight different times. The final tie that sent the game into the first OT came on a basket by Jesse Henderson-Lewis with :23 seconds left. OCC then missed a basket on the other end and the second half ended at 62-62.

The first OT featured both teams going shot for shot and at the end of the additional five minutes, the game was locked up at 73-73. In the second OT Cypress held a lead but was never able to get out in front of OCC by more than 3 points. OCC tied it at 83-83 with a little over a minute left and a Cypress turnover with :20 seconds left led to an OCC layup that put them up by two. Mark Townes was able to get off a desperation shot for Cypress that hit the back of the rim and bounced off, securing the win for OCC.

David Gonzalez lead the Chargers in scoring with 24 points. Mark Townes chipped in with 18 and both Jerred Cook and Kevin Barnes scored 13 and 10 points respectively. 

The Chargers drop to 2-7 in conference and 7-17 overall. They will stay at home next week when they face Riverside on Tuesday (2/11) at 7:30pm.
