Freshman Christian Broussard hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th to catapult the Knights to a 3-2 win, their third in a row, over Irvine Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Freshman Christian Broussard hit a walk-off solo home run in the bottom of the 10th to catapult the Knights to a 3-2 win, their third in a row, over Irvine Valley on Saturday afternoon.
Broussard, who went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs, also pitched the final two innings in relief and held Irvine Valley without a hit while striking out three to earn the win.
The Knights, who started the week with a 4-3 win over West Los Angeles on Tuesday and a 6-1 win over Cerro Coso on Friday, scored the first run of Saturday's game in the second inning.
Freshman right fielder Tyler Flores led the inning off with a single up the middle and then advanced to second base on Broussard's single. Ricky Kliebenstein laid down a sacrifice bunt to move both runners in scoring position and then a wild pitch by Irvine Valley starter Ryan Abady allowed Flores to come home.
Irvine Valley tied it in the fourth inning when Clint Jack drew a bases loaded walk, but the Knights regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Broussard doubled with two out and later scored on an error.
The Knights had a great opportunity in the sixth inning when they had the bases loaded with one out, but came away empty. Kliebenstein fouled out and Dylan Pletsch grounded out to end the inning.
The Lasers evened the score once again in the eighth inning on Cory Mendoza's sacrifice fly.
Broussard, who was in the designated hitter for most of the game, relieved starting pitcher Kyle Peeler in the ninth inning. Peeler allowed two runs on 12 hits and struck out two in eight innings of work.
Broussard walked the first batter he faced, but went on to retire the following six. Then, with one out in the bottom of the 10th, he came up to bat and belted a home run over the left field fence to give the Knights the victory.
