Softball: Rio Hondo edged 6-4 at Fullerton

Rio Hondo College put together a four-run, second-inning but it wasn't enough as the Roadrunners dropped a 6-4 non-conference game at Fullerton College on Tuesday.

Rio Hondo totaled just three hits in the contest but got two of them in the run-scoring second inning. Trailing 1-0, Mylene Valencia lined a RBI single to drive in Brittany Salcido before Elaine Verdugo came in to score on a throwing error. Esthefany Martinez capped the rally with a two-run triple to center field that scored Valencia and Brenae Martinez.

But that was all the offense for the Roadrunners. Fullerton (9-8) put up two runs in the bottom of the second and took the lead for good after scoring three unearned runs in the fourth.

Freshman Brenae Martinez took the loss to fall to 5-15 overall. She allowed just one earned run and six hits in the complete-game effort.

The Roadrunners, now 6-16 overall, return to Foothill Conference action on Friday (Mar. 11) when they host Victor Valley College in a doubleheader starting at 12 p.m.
