BAKERSFIELD – The Marauder women's basketball team certainly played much better than its first game against Pasadena City College, but still had a tough loss Friday suffering a 65-53 defeat to Riverside City College, at the Bakersfield Crossover Tournament.
Makaela Manson led the Marauders (0-2) with 24 points, including connecting on seven 3-pointers. Manson also finished with seven rebounds. Deja Smith finished with her second consecutive 20-point game as she finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and seven assists.
"We have to take some L's to get some W's. So these were the L's, now we're coming for the W's," Manson said. "We had a great chance to win and we should've taken control of that chance, but we fell short. I thought we played well, but we had too many turnovers."
AVC committed 21 turnovers compared to Riverside's (2-0) 14. The Tigers outrebounded AVC, 54-44, including two players in double digit rebounds.
The Marauders were 12-of-32 from behind the arc. It was the first time since 2013 that an AVC team connected on 10 or more 3-point shots.
