Gomez’s Hat Trick Boosts Chargers to Victory Over Norco

Norco – The Cypress women's soccer team (7-0-3, 4-0-3 OEC) put on a dominating performance on Friday afternoon, defeating Norco (2-7, 0-5 OEC) 7-0 on the road to remain unbeaten in Orange Empire Conference play. Five players scored for the Chargers, with Jackie Gomez's hat trick leading the way. With the win, Cypress extended its shutout run to five games.

It took over 33 minutes for Cypress to strike, but once Gomez tallied her first goal, a flood gate of scoring opened up for the Chargers. Michaila Martin got on the board next, scoring off a pass from Gomez in the 35th minute. The duo connected again just before halftime as Martin scored her second goal of the game. The Chargers went into the break leading 3-0.

Cypress scored quickly in the second half as Gomez picked up her second goal of the game in the 47th minute of action. She then capped off her hat trick 20 minutes later (assisted by Ariana Suarez) to push Cypress' lead to 5-0.

Jade Perez scored Cypress' sixth goal of the game (79') after a pass by Laura Najera, and then Najera scored her own goal (assist by Liz Gutierrez) in the 41' minute to cap off the Chargers' scoring run.

Next week the Chargers will host Irvine Valley on Tuesday, Oct. 7 at 3:00 pm before heading to conference leader Santiago Canyon on Friday, Oct. 10.
