Women’s Basketball Lights Up Floor, Boat Races Golden West

The Riverside City College women's basketball team returned to their home hardwood on Friday night as they played host to the Golden West College Rustlers. After stumbling the contest prior, the Tigers returned to mid-season form by handily defeating the Rustlers by the final score of 99-54.

Riverside controlled the contest from opening tip with just two ties and four lead changes all coming in the early moments of the first quarter. They lead by as much as 45 points in the ladder minutes of the contest.

They utilized a 55 percent shooting clip from the floor, which encompassed a 70 percent mark from long range. The Tigers dominated the boards as seen in a 53-23 ratio in thier favor. Furthermore, they controlled the turnover game, forcing the Rustles to cough up the rock 20 times.

Heading the charge was sophomore guard Trinity Vasquez as she bucketed a season-high 30 points, marking her 17th consecutive contest landing in double-digit points. She shot a season best 12-for-15 from the floor and buried a pair of triples. Furthermore, she involved others in the game by dishing out seven assists.

Freshman Regenus Gates continued to cart a hot hand by dropping 15 points following a night where she scored 21 points in a loss to Santa Ana. She added eight rebounds, three steals and two blocks to tease a double-double showing.

Freshman Prentice Burris recorded her first-career double-double by hauling in 10 rebounds and finishing with 10 points. Freshman duo Ariane Madlambayan and Rebecca London earned 10 points each as well.

Riverside (13-9, 5-4 OEC) will hit the road on Tuesday, February 11 to face off against the Fullerton College Hornets at 5 p.m.
