Balanced offense leads to 93-88 win over L.A. City

LOS ANGELES -- The Orange Coast College men's basketball team found strength in numbers on Thursday night as the Pirates picked up a 93-88 road win at L.A. City College.

Five different Pirates (2-2) reached double figures on the night. Leading the way was the 1-2 punch of Sam Hunter and Josh Govett, who each had 18 points. Mitchell Rawlins notched a double-double for OCC with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Isaiah Lee came off the bench for 14 points and eight rebounds in 20 minutes of work. Cody Aquino rounded out the double-figure gang with 10 points and four assists. 

Caleb Shepherd had 30 points, nine rebounds and five assists for LACC (0-2), while Luke Olmstead added 23 points.

Coast led by as many as 18 with 8 minutes left to play in the game, but the Bear Cubs ralled and pulled to within five with 2 minutes left, but the Pirates came up big from the free-throw line down the stretch, going 17-of-27 from the charity stripe in the second half. 

Up next for the Pirates will be the Palomar Crossover, which begins on Friday, Nov. 24 against the host Comets at 3 p.m.
