SBVC Baseball opens up strong, but falls late to the Gauchos, 11-3

SBVC (23-15) needed to win game two to force a deciding game three, but that was not to be, as #6 SBVC was upset by the #11 seeded Mission Viejo Saddleback Gauchos (25-13), 11-3.

Both teams flipped the "home side" as game two was a Saddleback "home game," putting SBVC as the visitors. Getting the nod for game two on the mound for SBVC was freshman left handed starting pitcher Sam Fitzgerald (4-1) (Lake Elsinore H.S.). He tossed a strong five and two thirds innings keeping the potent Gauchos lineup quiet for four and two thirds innings. Fitzgerald ended up surrendering four runs, all earned, on five hits, walking one and striking out five in his first loss of the season.

Sophomore right handed pitcher Jeremy Moreno (Riverside Poly) inherited one on two out and struggled trying to finish the sixth, being lifted before even recording an out, giving up a run on two hits. Sophomore right handed pitcher Brandon Conlon (Norco H.S.) a regular starter, came in attempting to stop the bleeding in the bottom of the seventh, but unfortunately was touched up for six runs, all earned, on three hits walking four.

SBVC opened up the scoring in the top of the first, as sophomore first baseman Aaron Cisneros (San Bernardino H.S.) clobbered a two out double to left and freshman second baseman Jonathan McCray (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) followed that up with a single to center, scoring Cisneros.

Then the "visitors" added two more, as sophomore catcher Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills H.S.) reached on a fielder's choice, eventually reaching third and scoring on a passed ball in the top of the fourth. After a balk moved sophomore short stop Tyler Robles (Etiwanda H.S.) from second to third, sophomore third baseman Andrew Ramones (Redlands Citrus Valley) brought Robles home on a single to right.

Saddleback tied the game in the bottom of the fifth, with a two on two out home run to right field, tying the game at 3-3. The Gauchos added two more runs in the sixth and then put the game out of reach in the bottom of the seventh, scoring six runs.

Robles went 2 for 4 with a run scored and sophomore left fielder Christian Hendrix (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) went 2 for 3 on the afternoon.
