Beach Volleyball Earns First Conference Sweep against Golden West

Beach Volleyball Earns First Conference Sweep against Golden West

After dropping two of the last three Orange Empire Conference (OEC) contest, the Riverside City College beach volleyball squad looked to make a statement against the Golden West College Rustlers on the road. The Tigers did just that by sweeping the field leading to their second 5-0 victory and first complete sweep in conference play.

The Rustlers did not lay down throughout the entire day as three of the five sets were completed in three sets. Sophomore Natalie Escher and freshman Vashti Elias-Romero comprised the top team and reigned supreme in three sets. They cruised to a 21-6 victory in the first set by the final score of 21-6. They dropped the second set, 20-22, but hauled in the victory with a 15-6 third-set win.

Freshman duo Jasmine Urban and Kayla Mckinnon cruised to a two-set win as the second paring with scores reading 21-15, 21-18. Sophomore duo Telanni Childs and Patricia Brucks hauled in a win at the third position with final scores tallied at 21-10, 10-21, 15-10.

Sophomore Roni Lopez and freshman Morgan Spencer rallied back to a three-set after dropping the opening set at 15-21. They went on to win the final two sets by the final score of 21-8 and 15-13. Freshman dup Robyn Collier and Madison Hernandez cruised to a 22-20, 20-11 victory as the number five team.

Riverside (5-7, 3-3 OEC) will continue action on the road against Fullerton and Irvine Valley on Friday, April 12.
