BASEBALL: EARY BIG JUMP

The baseball Hornets jumped on Southwestern College in the 2nd inning and never looked back as they won 11-6 at home Tuesday.

Both teams entered the game with a 5-0 record with Fullerton ranked 19th in the SoCal preseason poll and Southwestern ranked 6th.

The Hornets kicked it in gear early dropping seven runs on the Panthers in the 2nd inning.

Southwestern scored their first run in the 4th inning, but FC tallied three more the following at bat.

With the Fullerton up 10-1, the Panthers tried to rally back scoring two runs in the 5th and three runs in the 7th, but Fullerton relievers Parker Merrit and Jake Lyons held strong to preserve the victory.

FC starting pitcher Dylan Prohoroff (2-0) nailed down his second win of the season throwing 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, and 3 strikeouts. Merrit went 2 innings allowing 5 hits, 3 earned runs, and had 1 strikeout. Lyons tossed 2 innings allowing 2 hits, no earned runs, and 3 strikeouts.

Offensively, OF Marco Rivera led the charge going 2-4 with 2 runs and 3 RBI. IF Oscar Heredia (2-3 with 2 runs) and catcher Jeffrey Murray (2-3 with 1 run) both contributed 2 RBI on the day.

Up Next: The Hornets (6-0 overall) will host Palomar College this Thursday, February 12th at 2:00 pm.
