Pitchers pace Pirates to 9-3 win at Southwestern

CHULA VISTA -- The 2024 season has started out rough for the pitching staff of the Orange Coast College baseball team, but on Friday, the Pirate arms more than delivered in a 9-3 road win at Southwestern College.

Dimond Loosli picked up the win after throwing five solid innings against the Jaguars, holding them to two runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts.

From there, infielder-turned-pitcher Keith Aguilar took the ball and pitched two scoreless innings on just two hits before turning the ball over to late-inning guy, Jackson Gilles, who allowed one run on two hits with a strikeout to preserve the win.

Coast posted back-to-back, three-run innings in the third and fourth to take a 6-2 lead and added two more in the seventh to make it 8-2.

Connor Debenon went 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, but the offensive success was up and down the Pirate lineup. Eight different OCC players scored a run and five different players drove in runs as Coast pounded out 12 hits in the win.

Coast returns to action on Saturday at John Altobelli Park against Mt. San Antonio College, beginning at 12 p.m.
