WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: HORNETS FALL BUT KHLOE KARES

The Lady Hornet basketball team lost at home Friday night to Orange Coast College 65-53 in an Orange Empire Conference match-up.

The loss gives FC a 1-4 record in the Orange Empire Conference with an overall record of 9-12. The Pirate victory bumps them up in the OEC to 3-3 and 15-9 overall.

Fullerton's Monica Hanna scored the game's first two points on a nice lay-in, but OCC's Sydney Driggs hit a shot from beyond the arc soon after. Hanna put FC back up 4-3 on a put-back, however the Pirates struck again hitting another three-pointer courtesy of Danielle Obong. OCC finished the first quarter with a 17-12 lead and never let up.

In the second quarter Orange Coast went on a 12-1 run distancing themselves from Fullerton. By halftime, the Pirates led 34-23.

OCC had their biggest lead of the game (23 points) with less than a minute left in the third quarter.

Fullerton's shooting was cold tonight as they hit only 30% of their shots. Meanwhile, OCC hit 40% from the field and was even better from the three-point range at 47.8% (11 for 23).

Melody Thomsen scored a team-high 14 points for the Hornets and Tianna Buford followed up with 12 points with 8 rebounds. Tritian Johns scored 11 points and had 4 steals. Monica Hanna had 7 points and 8 rebounds.

Tonight's game may have been a loss for FC, but it was a winning situation for those who donated to the Khloe Kares foundation. Nine-year old Khloe spoke at halftime and thanked all who donated new toiletry items that will help the local homeless women in need. It was a very successful night as three large bins were filled with soaps, emergency kits, lotions, toothpaste toothbrushes, hand sanitizers, and more. She is a special girl doing amazing things to make the world a better place.

Up Next: The Lady Hornets (9-12, 1-4) will play Saddleback College at home on Wednesday, January 25th. Game time is at 5:00 pm.
