WOMEN'S WATER POLO: A WINNING SEASON IS OVER

Fullerton's strong season-long push for another state title came to an end on Saturday at the Southern California Regionals with a 6-9 upset by San Diego Mesa College.

Hosted by Mt. San Antonio College, the SoCal Regionals came and went with the Hornets ending their season with a third place finish just missing the State Championships.

The Olympians took an early 2-1 lead in the first quarter, but FC bounced back in the second to tie it up at 4-4 by the half. 

The third quarter ended with both colleges knotted up at six apiece, however the fourth quarter belonged to Mesa as they went on a 3-goal-run keeping the Hornets scoreless.

In the second game of the day, Fullerton had to play Orange Empire Conference rival Golden West College for a chance at a third place finish.

The Hornets did not disappoint as they went on to win the game 11-7. FC took an early 2-1 lead in the first quarter and then held on for the win. The Rustlers came within two points (9-7) in the third quarter, but Fullerton went on to score two more unanswered points in the fourth to win them game.

Despite falling short of a state title, the 2015 Hornets finished the regular season with an impressive 25-6 overall record and will begin working hard on 2016 state run.

"I'm very proud of what we accomplished this season. The team worked hard and never gave up on each other. It's time now to reload and get ready for next season", Coach Gabriel Martinez.

Riverside City College won the Southern California Regional title and will now advance to the State Championships, along with San Diego Mesa, at Pasadena City College next weekend.
