CYPRESS, Calif. --- The Cypress Chargers found themselves in a dog fight at home against the visiting Citrus Owls last night.  The Chargers realized that they were in for a competitive match once the Owls took the first set, (30-28).

Despite dropping the first set, Vanessa Garcia was able to record four kills off six attempts for the Chargers, while Allyson Dekruyf added seven assists.

After losing the first set, the Chargers found themselves down for the first time this season.  Going into the second set, Ani Green recorded four kills and was able to spark some energy for the Chargers.  Unfortunately, the Owls edged out the Chargers (25-22), and took a 2-0 lead on the night.

The Chargers came out with a high intensity in the third set, and looked like a completely different team.  Ivana Escobedo took charge and recorded five kills off of five Dekruyf assists.  The Chargers also decreased the amount of mistakes by only committing three errors compared to eight in the previous set.  

Cypress took set three, (25-16).

Facing a 1-2 deficit, the Chargers were able to gain some momentum and show a lot of heart heading into the fourth set.  Similar to previous set, Cypress limited the amount of mistakes and had 14 kills off of 30 attempts.  The Chargers were more aggressive at the net, taking the equalizing fourth set, (25-16).

The Chargers had a lot of momentum heading into the final set, but unfortunately came up short against the Owls, (12-15).  This makes the Chargers 3-1 on the season.

Escobedo ended the night with a respectable 16 kills while Dekruyf added an outstanding total of 42 assists. 

Another notable performance was Kiki Atuatasi's eight digs, four blocks and four aces.  

Cypress hits the road to face El Camino Friday night.
