WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: HORNETS SPLIT OPENER

The Lady Hornets opened up the 2016 season at Cerritos College on Wednesday playing in back to back games against Citrus and Cerritos Colleges.

Fullerton took the court against Citrus College in the first match beating the Owls 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 27-25, 25-19).

Sophomore Shawnee Longmeyer led the way with 17 kills, 4 aces, and 17 digs. Sophomore Reilley Williams had 12 kills with 4 digs. Freshman Paige Tillman delivered 34 assists, with 6 kills, and 4 digs. Freshman Rebecca Hicks had 8 kills with an ace and a dig.

In the second match of the day against host Cerritos College, the Hornets took the first two games 25-19 and 25-20. Unfortunately they hit a wall for the next three games losing to the Falcons 23-25, 18-25, and 11-15.

Longmeyer hammered 22 kills, had 4 aces, and 10 digs. Williams contributed 10 kills and 7 digs. Tillman had 25 assists and 14 digs. Sophomore Victoria Rodriguez had 20 digs and freshman Maya Maldonado had 13.

Up Next: The Hornets (1-1 overall) will host MiraCosta College for their first home game of the season in the Fullerton College South Gym on Wednesday, September 7th at 6:00 pm.
