Pirates roll past Tigers, 21-6

COSTA MESA -- A hot, goal-scoring start from Caden Carpenter helped propel the Orange Coast College men's water polo team to an impressive 21-6 Orange Empire Conference win over visiting Riverside City College on Wednesday at the OCC Aquatics Pavilion.

Carpenter scored five times for the Pirates (7-4, 2-0 in the OEC) including the first four goals of the match, sparking an 11-1 first-half run that the Tigers (2-5, 0-2) could not recover from.

Grant Busta and Julien Cassell-Cornet each scored three goals for the Pirates, while Griffin Likins, Carmelo Bangs and Ryan O'Donovan each scored twice.

Starting goalie Roman Christenot was solid in goal for the first half and allowed just one goal with six saves. Backup goalie Dariush Hashani took duties the rest of the way and notched five saves.

Coast will head up the coast and will compete in the Cuesta College Tournament in San Luis Obispo. OCC will opening things against Mt. San Antonio on Friday, beginning at 12:40 p.m.
