SOFTBALL: SLUGGING THEIR WAY BACK

The Hornets continued to roll on Wednesday beating Santa Ana College 5-1 on the road in a conference match-up.

It was an excellent win for Fullerton after losing to Dons 4-0 at home on February 24th. With the three-game series now tied a one a piece, FC continues to fight their way back in a tough conference race.

After a slow start, the Hornets earned their third straight within the Orange Empire Conference giving them a 5-6 record, while their overall record increases to 11-13. The Santa Ana loss bumps them down a notch at 5-5 in the OEC and 13-11 overall.

The game began with both teams scoring a run in the first inning. Fullerton's Elexa Rangel knocked in Mel Madrigal on a ground out to third. Previously, Madrigal had doubled to left center field putting her in scoring position.

Santa Ana's lone run came on a single to the left side by Raven Sapia that scored Kasey Hutton.

The Hornets put up another run in the second on a solo blast that sailed over the left field wall by Anabel Mendez

With FC holding a narrow 2-1 lead, the game remained scoreless until the seventh inning. Then, the Hornet offense scored three unanswered runs to seal the victory. Amanda Guillen scored on a wild pitch, and Jill Saiza scored on a passed ball. Eryka Rangel hit a double to left center field bringing Jessica Piceno home.

Mel Madrigal was 2-4 at the plate with a run scored, and Elexa Rangel was 1-4 on the day with 2 RBI.

Fullerton's Natasha Trujillo was impressive in the circle going 7 innings allowing 1 earned run on 7 hits. She ha no walks 

Up Next: The Hornets (11-13, 5-6) will play at the Santa Barbara City College Tournament running March 24-26.
