SBVC Baseball struggles in game one against Gauchos, 18-8

SBVC (23-14) found themselves in a 7-2 hole early and fought back to tie the game at 7-7 in the bottom of the 7th in game one of a best-of-three series with the Mission Viejo Saddleback Gauchos (24-13), but the visitors were not pleasant guests as they added two in the 8th and sent 14 to the plate in the 9th to take game one, 18-8.

Sophomore right handed starting pitcher Nick Przybylek (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.) tossed six complete and left the game after taking an awkward fall off the mound chasing after a grounder up the middle. He gave up seven runs, four earned on 11 hits, walking one and striking out five. Sophomore right handed pitcher Luis Villarreal (4-1) (Colton H.S.) was tagged with his first loss of the year, surrendering four runs, one earned on four hits over two and a third innings of work.

Saddleback opened up the scoring in the top of the second, putting three runs up on the board and SBVC got right back in the game with a couple of runs in the bottom half of the frame. With two on and one out, sophomore third baseman Andrew Ramones (Redlands Citrus Valley) grounded out to the second baseman, scoring freshman second baseman Jonathan McCray (Riverside Martin Luther King, Jr.). Sophomore left fielder Christian Hendrix (Fontana Henry J. Kaiser) followed that up with a single to left scoring sophomore catcher Christian Fillingame (Oak Hills H.S.), making the score 3-2.

The Gauchos added three more runs in the third and another run in the fourth to go up, 7-2. SBVC then started to chip away, with a run in the fourth, two more in the fifth, another run in the sixth and tying the game in the bottom of the seventh. The run scored when sophomore designated hitter Kurtis Kloke (San Bernardino Cajon) hit a sacrifice fly to right, scoring sophomore short stop Tyler Robles (Etiwanda H.S.).

Saddleback would add two more runs in the top of the eighth, SBVC put one more run on the board in the bottom of the eighth, then the Gauchos sent 14 batters to the plate in the ninth, scoring nine runs.

Sophomore first baseman Aaron Cisneros (San Bernardino H.S.) went 3 for 4 on the afternoon and Robles went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and an RBI. Fillingame went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI and Kloke went 2 for 4 with a run scored and an RBI.
