SOFTBALL: BIG WIN ON OPENING DAY

SOFTBALL: BIG WIN ON OPENING DAY

The Lady Hornets took a trip down south to Palomar College on Friday and knocked off the #2 team in the state 9-7.

The win was a big one as Fullerton came into the game unranked in the CCCFPCA Pre-Season Poll, while Palomar (0-1) was ranked #2 in the state and #1 in Southern California.

The Comets scored the game's first run in the second inning, but FC ripped off three runs in the top of the third and added two more in the fourth to go up 5-1. Palomar tried to chip away, but FC offense was too potent as they never lost the lead.

Hornet outfielder Tiffiny Centeno was 4-4 on the day with 2 runs scored and added an RBI. Catcher Anissa Loera was 2-3 with 2 runs, 2 RBI, and a walk. Miranda Hernandez was 2-4 at the plate scoring 2 runs and knocked in a RBI.

Returning sophomore pitcher Brigid Ruiz locked down the win going 7 innings for Fullerton. She had 3 strikeouts and allowed 5 earned runs on the day.

Up Next: Fullerton (1-0) will host San Bernardino College this Wednesday, February 3rd. Game time is at 3:00 pm.
