Needing a game where the offense can break out of their slump, the Cerritos College softball team scored 11 runs in the first two innings in an 11-2 non-conference win at Riverside City College on Monday. The game was rescheduled from February 20 and helped the Falcons (11-6) break a two-game streak where they failed to score a run. The team will resume South Coast Conference play on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. when they host East Los Angeles College.

In the win over the Tigers (7-13), Cerritos scored four times in the top of the first inning and added seven more runs in the second inning to open up a huge lead.

The game started with sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) drawing a walk and then stealing second base. Sophomore third baseman Natalie Basurto (Walnut HS) then drew a walk, with both runners advancing a base on a passed ball. The first run came home on a base hit by sophomore catcher Jimena Velazquez (Fullerton Union HS) before sophomore outfielder Nadia Landeros (Warren HS/Rio Hondo College) laced a single to load the bases. Sophomore shortstop Marley Manalo (Walnut HS) followed with an RBI single before freshman designated hitter Natalie Fraijo (Charter Oak HS) lifted a fly ball to drive in a run with a sacrifice fly. On the play, the Tigers threw the ball away getting it back to the infield, which allowed the fourth run of the inning to score.

Sophomore pitcher Reanna Carranza (El Rancho HS) tossed the first four innings to earn the win and scattered four hits on the day. She also struck out three batters.

In the second inning, sophomore outfielder Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS) led off with a base hit and then stole second base. After Macias drew a walk, the two pulled off a double steal to put runners at second and third base. Basurto got the scoring started with an RBI single before Velazquez cleared the bases with a three-run home run. With runners now at second and third after a walk and single, sophomore first baseman Celeste Carbajal (Mayfair HS) drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, with Fraijo adding an RBI single. Cerritos closed out the scoring on the day when Doan singled in a run.

Velazquez (2-for-2, walk, two runs, four RBI), Manalo (2-for-3, RBI) and Doan (2-for-3, RBI) all had multiple-hit games for the Falcons.
