VALDEZ NETS 2 IN 3-1 WIN OVER NORCO
Freshman forward Melissa Valdez scored two goals on Tuesday, including the game-winner, to help give the Knights a 3-1 home win over Norco College. The Knights improved to 1-1 on the season after starting with a 5-0 home loss to Long Beach last Friday.

Freshman forward Melissa Valdez scored two goals on Tuesday, including the game-winner, to help give the Knights a 3-1 home win over Norco College. The Knights improved to 1-1 on the season after starting with a 5-0 home loss to Long Beach last Friday.
Tuesday's victory was City's earliest to begin a season since 2013 when the Knights also won their second game.
Norco took a 1-0 lead with a goal from Kayla Criswell-Ortiz in the 25th minute, but the Knights answered 10 minutes later with the equalizer from Francesca Bevacqua that was assisted by Sylvia Rojas.
The tie was broken by Valdez in the 70th minute and she added another six minutes later to put the Knights ahead, 3-1. Those goals were assisted by Veronika Castillo and Sarah Marshall, respectively.
Castillo, a sophomore goalkeeper, had four saves on Tuesday. She had 17 saves in the loss to Long Beach.
The Knights will continue their 5-game home stand on Friday against Compton at 2 p.m.
