BASEBALL: SPRING BREAK SPLIT

Hitting no home runs this season, the Hornets blasted two on Wednesday against visiting Taft College to knock off the Cougars 11-0.

Fullerton opened Spring Break hosting two non-conference games with the first being a 5-2 loss to El-Camino-Compton Center on Tuesday. It was a lack-luster effort by the Hornets as the game marked their third consecutive loss and their fifth loss out of the last six games.

Wednesday's win against Taft could not come soon enough as the Hornets actually swung their bats breaking their losing streak just in time for the second half of the season.

FC scored the first two runs of the game in the second and fourth innings. In the second, catcher Jeffrey Murray hit a single through the left side scoring 3B Trent Hammond, and in the fourth, LF Anthony Seminaris hit a sacrifice fly to center field allowing DH Shane Carrier to cross the plate.

It was in the fifth where Fullerton broke out lighting up the scoreboard scoring five runs. An error by the Cougars allowed Hammond to reach first base scoring RF Julio Rivera and SS Christian Prado. The Carrier came in ending the FC home run drought blasting a shot over the right field ivy with Hammond and 1B Oscar Heredia on base.

With the score at 7-0, Hammond added another RBI when he doubled to left field in the sixth bringing in Julio Rivera.

Adding more fuel to fire in the eighth inning, Murray hit the second homer of the season over the right field wall scoring Julio Rivera and Seminaris as well.

Pitching a superb game for Fullerton was starter Gordon Cardenas. He threw shutout eight innings with only 4 hits against with 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. Reliever Ryon Martinez tossed an inning with only a hit against and a strikeout.

Up Next: The Hornets (18-10 overall and 7-6 conference) will resume conference-play on Tuesday, April 7th when they travel to Santa Ana College . Game time is at 2:00 pm.
