No. 4 in the state men's volleyball team sweeps the Hawks

The Irvine Valley men's volleyball team stayed perfect in Orange Empire Conference play with a 25-13, 25-15, 25-16 Friday night at home over Santiago Canyon.

The Lasers, ranked No. 4 in the state, moved their record to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the OEC. Santiago Canyon went to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in conference.

Irvine Valley hit a season high .468 as a team in the match and held the Hawks to a -.095 clip.

The Lasers had 11 players have at least one kill, led by sophomore outside hitter Jared Irwin with nine kills. Irwin also had a hitting percentage of .615 and added a team-high nine digs.

Freshman setter and opposite Grant Dvorak finished with six kills, hit .600 and contributed 17 assists.

IVC sophomore outside hitter Damon Kooiman added five kills and sophomore setter Nick Hinker had 14 assists in the win.

Irvine Valley is on the road this week at Fullerton in a conference match at 6 p.m.

The Lasers next play at home on Friday, Mar. 29 against Golden West at 6 p.m.
