PERFECT START TO SEASON CONTINUES FOR MARAUDER WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

SAN JACINTO - The Marauder women's basketball team had no problems with first-year program Copper Mountain as it rolled to an easy 90-35 victory over the Fighting Cacti in the opening round of the Mt. San Jacinto Tournament.
Seven Marauder players scored in double figures including Shantanel Bivens who finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Aniyah Terry led AVC with 15 points, but it was the Marauders' entire roster that contributed for the easy victory.
AVC's bench outscored Copper Mountain's bench 39-0. Nicole Pullum had her first-ever double double by finishing with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Kiana Cross and Jailesha Shellmire finished with 13 and 10 points respectively off the bench for the Marauders.
Deja Smith played only 15 minutes but had 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals. Mystar Golden started for AVC and finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three blocks. All 10 rostered players scored for the Marauders.
AVC jumped out to a 10-1 lead in the first quarter and put it on cruise control from then on. The Marauders will get their stiffed test of the season in the next round when they face the No. 2 team in Southern California, host Mt. San Jacinto.
