Cypress Dominates Santa Ana at Home 12-1

Cypress Calif. - The Chargers baseball team (23-8, 12-4 OEC) remains in command of the Orange Empire Conference after a home victory over the Santa Ana College Dons (13-19-1, 3-15 OEC) on Thursday afternoon. 

Cypress took control of the game early, outscoring the Dons 11-0 through the first four innings before allowing one run in the fifth to make it an 11-1 game. The Chargers would hold Santa Ana scoreless for the remainder of the game and add one more run to their total in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 12-1. Cypress put on a tremendous all-around performance from the plate with a team total of 15 hits on the day. Shortstop Jack Flansburg led the way for the Chargers going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one walk. Second baseman Jackson Willeford hit his second home run of the season deep over the center field wall in the bottom of the second inning scoring two runs. Chargers ace Nathan Kuchta (8-1), collected his eighth win of the season after going 5.2 innings giving up seven hits and one run with three strikeouts.

The Chargers currently have a one game lead over Golden West (20-13, 12-6 OEC) in the conference standings. The Rattlers own the tiebreaker with a 2-1 series lead over Cypress in OEC play. The Chargers will look to hold on to their top spot as they head to Santa Ana College on Friday, April 17 to take on the Dons at 2:00 pm.
