The Cerritos College men's water polo team started their 2013 season facing a pair of teams at the Golden West Mini-Tournament on Friday. The Falcons opened the day with a thrilling 12-11 win over Riverside City College and followed that with an 11-4 loss to defending state champion Golden West College. The team will travel to Whittier College on Saturday to take on a pair of four-year colleges.

In the win over the Tigers, Cerritos received four goals from freshman Marlon Moreno (Virgen del Rosario HS, Venezuela), but it was a last-second steal by freshman Cody Anderson (Valencia HS) to secure the victory. The Falcons struggled with turnovers (15) and ejections (15) in their first game of the season, but their aggressive nature also allowed them to draw 12 ejections.

Freshman goalkeeper Alfredo De La Mora (Bell Gardens HS) posted 13 saves in the win and added three steals, while Anderson finished the game with a team-high four steals. Sophomore Randy Baldwin (Buena Park HS/Fullerton College) accounted for three goals, while sophomore TJ Tigerina (Bell Gardens HS) dished out three assists.

The Falcons had their hands full against Golden West and found themselves playing from behind from the outset. Four different players scored for Cerritos, while De La Mora made 10 saves in the loss.
