CYPRESS, Calif. --- Despite losing to the visiting Fullerton College Hornets,  Cypress College showed that they can hang with anyone in the state.  

Cypress came into last nights match at (6-3) overall and looked to shock the undefeated (7-0) Hornets.  The Chargers took a commanding (1-0) lead after dropping the Hornets in the first set, (29-27).

The second set was very similar to the first, a back and forth set that involved close to double digit lead changes.  Mya Shannon tried keeping the Chargers in the second set, recording six kills, but the Hornets were able to edge out Cypress, (28-26). 

The third set went back to Cypress.  Allyson Dekruyf was able to record 11 assists in the third set and helped Kiki Atuatasi tack on four more kills to her impressive night. The Chargers went up (2-1) after another close victory, (25-22).

After Fullerton took set number four (25-17), everyone knew the fifth set would be a special one.  Both teams going into the final set with very impressive performances on the night. Both teams showed signs of hope, but unfortunately, the Hornets were able to squeak out a (15-12) victory and take the match (3-2). 

Mya Shannon led the Chargers with 23 kills, Holly Webster was able to record an incredible 26 digs and Allyson Dekruyf broke her season record of 49 assists on Wednesday, recording 53 more against Fullerton.  This makes Cypress (6-4) on the season.

The Chargers face Golden West next on the road, Oct. 9, starting at 6:00 pm.
