Local College and High School Sports Roundup: Butte baseball team drops two to Feather River

The Butte College baseball team dropped a doubleheader to Feather River College on Wednesday in Quincy, falling 7-1 and 12-2.

Jake Pott went 4 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Roadrunners in the first game, and Austin Calvert hit a double. Drake Richie also went 3 for 5 for Butte (15-19, 10-10 Golden Valley Conference).

The second game ended in eight innings on the 10-run rule. Michael Vargas went 2 for 4 with a double for Butte, while Ryan Zirkle went 2 for 2 with a double and Andy Pustejovsky went 2 for 3.

COLLEGE MEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

NorCal Decathlon

Butte’s Spencer Stockton finished third in San Mateo with 6,081 points and teammate Chase Kabisch (5,995) finished fifth as both qualified among the top six for the CCCAA state championships in May.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S TRACK AND FIELD

NorCal Heptathlon

Butte’s Bailey Moss finished fifth with 3,720 points on the final day of the event in San Mateo to qualify for the CCCAA state championships in May. Moss took third in the 800 meters to make the top six who advance.

Teammate Lawna Sannar (3,377) finished ninth.

PREP BOYS TENNIS

Oroville 5, Chico 4

Oroville’s Yeng Lo won a three-set match at No. 3 singles, and teammates Allen Saetern, Dee Lo and Kong Vang followed with straight-set singles wins for Oroville (5-3, 2-3 Eastern Athletic League).

Matt Weeber and Marcus Schwab won the top two singles matches for Chico in the home loss to the Tigers.

PREP BOYS TRACK AND FIELD

Pleasant Valley 96, Oroville 19

The Vikings (1-1) won every event except the 110-meter hurdles against the Tigers. Matt Richard won the 200 and 400 and Shawn Thomas was part of the 1,600 relay. Other winners included Thomas in the 1,600, Sergio Mendoza in the shot put, Ryan Troudy in the high jump, Trevor Bustamante in the 300 hurdles, Evan Luke won the 800, and Shawn Morrissey won the 3,200.

Butte View League Meet

The Trojans’ Kavi Ram won four events at the five-school meet held at Orland. Ram won the 100 meters, the 200 and took first in the long jump and triple jumps.

PREP GIRLS TRACK AND FIELD

Pleasant Valley 77, Oroville 25

The long jump and triple jump went to the Vikings’ Brooke Whitburn, the Northen Section leader in those events, in PV’s victory against the visiting Tigers.

Other event winners included Sydney Stanley in the 300-meter hurdles, Laney Nelson in the 200, Keely Johnson in the 800, Natalie Makel in the 100, Katie Finney in the shot put, Natalie Lowden in the high jump, Gracie Hernandez in the 400, Marie Bridgeford in the 100 hurdles, and Melanie Hickman in the 1,600.

Butte View League Meet

Orland’s Yaneth Munoz won the 100 meters and also ran a leg in the 400 relay along with Gelsey Quiroz, Mariya Lioez and Cindy Keomounepane.
