Pirates sweep past Comets

COSTA MESA -- The role players for the state's top program, the Orange Coast College men's volleyball team, saw all the action on Friday night as the Pirates swept past visiting Palomar, 25-15, 25-21, 25-21, in a nonconference matchup inside the Peterson Gym.

The depth of this year's Pirate program was on full display as 15 players saw action and all were impressive. Oskar Hingel led the way with 13 kills, while Grant Hall and Trent Douphner each added five kills. Nathan Diaz anchored the OCC defense with six digs, while Braeden Ferrone added five digs. Setter Nathan Diaz paced the offense with 23 assists.

The win improves the No. 1-ranked Pirates to a perfect 7-0 mark, while the loss drops the Comets to 3-3.

OCC will return to action on Wednesday at Miramar College, beginning at 6 p.m. The Pirates will return to the Peterson Gym on Wednesday, March 6 against Grossmont, also at 6 p.m.
