SOFTBALL: MENTAL ERRORS HURT HORNETS

Mental mistakes piled up on the Hornet softball team as they fell to Riverside City College 4-3 at home on Wednesday.

The Hornet loss keeps them at .500 with an overall record of 9-9 and 3-3 record in the Orange Empire Conference. The Tiger win gives them an overall record of 8-8 and an OEC record of 3-4.

Riverside got on the board first in the second inning on a throwing error that allowed Jenna Shay to score.

Fullerton answered back, tying it up 1-1, in the third on a Alexis Pintado single to right field scoring Desiree Lopez.

The Tigers dropped two more runs on the Hornets in the fourth and another in the fifth inning.

Heading into the bottom of the seventh, Riverside held a 4-1 lead. Pinch hitter Alyssa Dilay came up to bat with two outs and hit a single up the middle scoring Desiree Lopez and Melissa Madrigal. With Dilay on base representing the tying run, Ruiz hit a hard shot to the left side, but 3B Jena Shay made a nice play throwing the ball to first for the final out of the game.

FC pitcher Brigid Ruiz (9-7) took the loss putting in 7 innings of work with 8 hits, 3 earned runs, 5 strikeouts, and no walks.

Up Next: The Lady Hornets (10-8, 4-2) will hit the road against Golden West this Friday, March 11th @ 2:00 pm.
