Mt. SAC Baseball Falls to Saddleback, 13-4; Winner Today Goes to State Championships

(Mission Viejo, CA) After an opening-game victory in the best two-of-three series in the CCCAA Southern California Sectionals on Friday, the Mt. SAC Baseball Team lost game two to Saddleback, 13-4, as the series is tied at a game apiece.

Both teams will square off for one last time Sunday afternoon for the right to advance to the CCCAA State final four championship tournament next weekend May 26-28 in Fresno.

Mt. SAC's last appearance in the state finals was in 1964-65 when they were the back-to-back state championships.

Mt. SAC took a 3-0 lead in the third inning on RBI singles by second baseman Ryon Knowles and centerfielder Quinn Cotter along with a scoring fly ball by third baseman Michael Sandoval.

Knowles led the team going 4 for 4 with an RBI and left fielder Elijah Greene continues his hot hitting going 2 for 5 with two runs scored.

Greene leads the state in average (.437) and hits (86).

Saddleback would tie the game with two runs in the fourth and one in the fifth, 3-3.

With the bases loaded, right fielder Brandon Bradshaw fouled out to right field, sending Greene home for a 4-3 lead.

But that was it for the Mounties offense as they managed two hits and four base runners in the final four innings.

Saddleback scored nine runs in the eighth inning to put the game away.

Mt. SAC reliever Zach Bromstead (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season.
