Mt. SAC Softball Wins Twice over Palomar, 3-2; Santiago Canyon, 6-5

(Walnut, CA) After dropping the first game of the season Thursday (Feb. 27), the CCCAA State No.1 Mt. SAC Softball Team bounced back with a sweep of two top-10 teams Saturday (Feb. 29).

The Mounties opened the day with a 3-2 win over No. 6 Palomar and concluded the day with another one-run, 6-5 victory over No. 10 Santiago Canyon.

With the two wins, the Mounties improved to 15-1 overall.

Leading the way for the Mounties in the two games was center fielder Nicole Siess (3-6, 2 Runs, HR, 2 RBIs) and shortstop Quinn De Avila (3-5, 2 R, HR, Dbl, 2 RBIs).


Game 1
Mt. SAC 3, Palomar 2

Palomar opened the game with two runs in the first, but the Mounties came right back with two of their own.

Mt. SAC catcher Alyssa Martinez and second baseman Alexis Lemus each singled in runners to tie the game, 2-2.

The Mounties broke the 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning with two-out, back-to-back doubles by Lemus (2-3, RBI)  and third baseman Charleen Macias (1-3, RBI) for the go-ahead run and the 3-2 lead.

Alexia Silvas picked up her seventh win this season, scattering three hits and two runs and struck out five for the Mounties.


Game 2
Mt. SAC 6, Santiago Canyon 5

With the Mounties trailing 4-2, De Avila (2-3, R, HR, 2 RBIs) and Siess (2-3, R, HR, 2RBIs) each connected with two-run home runs in the third and fifth innings, respectively to take a 6-4 lead. The Hawks fell short in the seventh, scoring only one run, as the Mt. SAC held on for the win.

Sophomore pitcher Annalisa Panuco won her sixth game of the season in relief, going the final five innings, allowing one run on five hits and struck out eight batters.

Left fielder Alexis Lujan was 2 for 2 with two runs scored and a stolen base.

The Mounties will continue South Coast Conference action at L.A. Harbor Tuesday (Mar. 3).
