WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: TOUGH NIGHT

The FC women's basketball team took on #9 in SoCal Irvine Valley in the Hornets Nest Friday night and lost to the Lasers 54-35.

The loss tonight bumps the Hornets down to 5-14 overall and 1-6 in the Orange Empire Conference. The IVC victory gives the Lasers an overall record of 17-6 and an OEC record of 5-2.

The Lasers took control of the game early going on a 16-1 (2:25) on a jumper by Kasey Smit. By the end of the first quarter, Irvine owned a 17-4 lead.

The Hornets had some fight in the second quarter 8-2 run, but the Lasers owned a 30-15 lead at the half.

Fullerton had no firepower on offense tonight shooting 21.1% from the floor and a mere 17% (4-23) from the beyond the arc. Irvin shot 41% from the floor and out-scored the Hornets 18-7 off turnovers.

IVC's Morgan Byrant led all scorers with 16 points and added 7 rebounds. Smit came off the bench to score 8 points and brought down 8 rebounds. De'Jerre Scurry chipped in with 7 points and 4 rebounds.

For the Hornets, Monica Hana led the team with 11 points and 14 rebounds for another double-double. Nancy De La Crus had 9 points with 5 rebounds, and Melissa Madrigal scored 7 points with 2 steals.

Up Next: The Lady Hornets (5-14, 1-6) will have a bye next Wednesday, but will resume conference-play next Friday, February 5th when they host #14 Riverside City College. Tip off is at 5:00 pm.
