SBCC downed Moorpark 3-1, then staged an epic comeback to top Golden West 3-2 on Saturday and claim the consolation title in the Pierce Brahma Invitational women's volleyball tournament in Woodland Hills.
The No. 4-ranked Vaqueros (11-2) beat Moorpark 22-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-20 behind 16 kills from Shannon Friend and Katelynn Womack. Tristen Thompson had 26 digs.
SBCC fell behind 2-0 in the consolation final, dropping the first two sets 26-24 and 25-23. They won the third 25-20 and took a close fourth set 26-24. The 16th-ranked Rustlers (3-4) jumped ahead 7-0 in the fifth game to 15, then the Vaqueros stormed back to win in overtime, 22-20.
"It was an amazing comeback," said coach Ed Gover. "We never gave up and did a super job of battling back."
Friend had a season-best 21 kills vs. Golden West, Kaitlyn Clemann added 14 and Womack had 12. Clemann and Hannah Cantrell both had six blocks. Thompson notched a career-high 36 digs and Womack added 20 of her team's 99 digs. Shiloe Parsons had 44 assists.
The Vaqueros will host No. 3 Canyons on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and all high school students will be admitted free.
