Pirates pick up another road win after topping Hornets

FULLERTON -- The road whites will FINALLY get a breather for the Orange Coast College women's soccer team as the Pirates wrapped up an extended block of away matches with a 3-0 win over Fullerton College on Tuesday in the Orange Empire Conference opener for both programs.

With eight of the first nine contests played away from Costa Mesa, the Pirates racked up an impressive 6-2-1 record through this difficult stretch of the schedule. Coast will get its first match inside the OCC Soccer Complex this season on Friday against Cypress, beginning at 3 p.m.

Sydney Powell had a pair of goals for Coast on Tuesday, with the third goal coming from Shelby Giuntoli. Rian Landavazo notched a pair of saves, while Stephanie Serrato picked up an assist on opening goal of the match, which proved to be the game-winner.

Coast controlled play throughout the entire 90 minutes of action, holding the Hornets (1-5, 0-1) to just two shots on goal for the afternoon. Both were stopped by OCC goalkeeper Chloe Hernandez to preserve the shutout win.
