IRVINE - The Marauder women's volleyball team got off to a tough start with an opening season loss to Irvine Valley College, 25-14, 25-15, 25-13, Wednesday evening.
"We played a very good team today," AVC head coach Mark Cruz said. "It was good for us because it exploits our weaknesses, stuff we need to work on. Our preseason schedule is very tough and that's what we want to prepare us for conference."
Tiffany Matchett led the Marauders (0-1) with nine kills and three blocks. Jasmine Medovitch had five kills and Lauren Devine and Kaeley Avendano each added four.
Cruz is also impressed with his setter, Bella Bradford, who just began setting on Monday for her team.
"She's coming along really well," he said.
The Marauders travel to Bakersfield College on Saturday to face powerhouse Santa Barbara City College, which the Marauders gave fits to last season, and Mira Costa College.
